Created by weareseventeen and Ravensbourne University, OPN Festival was a 2-day celebration of the Motion Design industry, providing thought-provoking insights and discussion.
-
Developed to bridge the gap between motion design and education, the festival transformed The Ravensbourne University campus to become home to an inspiring 2-day programme of talks from some of the most renowned moving image studios and individuals in the industry. The event also featured a series of free workshops, a showcase of work from both professionals and undergraduates, and an illustration & design market of established and emerging creators and makers.
To brand the festival, we conceived a meaningful name and distinctive visual identity that embodied the idea of an open, dynamic community where boundaries are blurred and connections are formed - the living breathing OPN wordmark being the embodiment of this core principle. A playful collage of R&D was also created as part of the identity, highlighting the work of all studios and creatives involved. The branding was rolled out across print, digital and web.

Motion Capture FilmIn the run-up to the festival, we worked closely with Ravensbourne's Motion Graphic students on a project that explored motion capture - culminating in a film that was shown on the main stage to mark the end of OPN.
Creative Directors, Gary Roberts and Jason Drew comment, “we wanted to get the students to rethink and scrutinise the concept of what ‘motion’ means - exploring what it is to move, both as a noun and a verb. In animation, that's emotion, progression, growth and so on. It also links back to the animation principles and concepts that are the backbone to our industry; things like anticipation, timing, easing - which are a constant through all levels of design.”
